About the event

Remembrance Day in Australia is observed on November 11 each year to honor the members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty.

Originally called Armistice Day, it marks the anniversary of the agreement that ended World War I in 1918, with the cessation of hostilities taking effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. At 11:00 AM, Australians observe one minute of silence to remember the fallen. The red poppy is widely worn as a powerful symbol of sacrifice, inspired by the flowers that bloomed across the battlefields of Europe.
